Framer MCP: what Framer's agent connection can and can't do (October 2026)

Framer launched its official MCP server on October 22, 2026. How to connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, what it can't do yet, and how other builders compare.

Framer MCP is Framer’s official remote MCP server, introduced on October 22, 2026. It lets Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and other AI tools that support remote MCP servers with OAuth build pages, edit layouts, manage CMS content and publish a Framer project. It doesn’t handle localization yet, so Framer’s local External Agents setup still covers that.

For the same breakdown of Webflow, see Webflow MCP: what it can and can’t do.

Framer has two official ways to connect an AI agent

Framer first offered External Agents, a local command-line setup it covered in a Framer Academy lesson in June 2026. With the launch of Framer MCP, Framer now recommends the MCP for new connections.

Option How it connects Best for
Framer MCP A remote server at https://mcp.framer.com/mcp with OAuth sign-in. Listed for ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Grok, and works with any client that supports remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers. Framer doesn’t need to be open New connections and most design, content and publishing work
External Agents A local bridge set up with npx @framer/agent setup, for agents that run on your computer, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and Windsurf Localization, and teams already running a local setup (Framer help)

How to connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to Framer MCP

Framer’s setup guide lists two routes:

  • From a directory listing: install Framer from the ChatGPT Plugins directory, the Claude Directory, the Cursor Marketplace or Grok Bot’s connected apps, then sign in to Framer and approve access.
  • Manually: add a remote server named “framer” with the type Streamable HTTP and the URL https://mcp.framer.com/mcp, then sign in to Framer when the browser opens. Claude Code and Codex users add it from the terminal.

Once connected, give your agent the full project link and describe the task. The agent works with the permissions of the Framer account you signed in with, so it can reach any project that account can access.

What Framer MCP can change

According to Framer’s capabilities article, a connected agent can:

  • Build and edit pages: create pages and update layouts across desktop, tablet and phone breakpoints, reusing the project’s styles and components.
  • Manage content: create CMS collections and items, update structured content and import content from sources your AI tool can reach.
  • Review SEO: inspect metadata, headings, alt text and page structure, alongside any SEO tool connected to the same AI client.
  • Work on a branch: make changes on a Framer branch so you can review them before merging or publishing.
  • Publish: publish the site when you ask it to. Otherwise, changes stay in the project or branch.

Changes stay editable on the Framer canvas, and AI usage runs on your AI tool’s plan or credits.

What Framer MCP can’t do yet

Limit Applies to What to do instead
Localization Framer MCP, at launch Run translation work through External Agents
Project names and domains External Agents Change them in Framer’s project settings
Assigning overrides to nodes External Agents Set overrides on the Framer canvas
Analytics data External Agents Check traffic in Framer’s dashboard

Framer documents the last three limits for External Agents in its help center. It also says External Agents stay supported while Framer MCP reaches feature parity, so check the capabilities article before planning a large job.

Framer MCP suits teams that already design in Framer and want to hand repetitive work to an AI tool they already use, such as building a page from existing styles and components, filling CMS collections, or reviewing metadata and alt text before a launch. For wider platform gaps, see Framer limitations.

How Framer MCP compares with other website builders’ MCP servers

This table covers each builder’s official MCP option, including Ploy’s, with a source date for each row.

Builder and official route What a connected agent can change Limits and plan notes
Framer: Framer MCP, a remote server with OAuth (October 22, 2026) Pages, layouts, CMS, SEO review, branches and publishing No localization at launch
Webflow: Webflow MCP server (our guide, October 21, 2026) Pages, styles, components, CMS content and site publishing Can’t create new localized CMS items, and canvas actions need the Bridge App open
WordPress: MCP Adapter plugin (WordPress.org, October 2, 2026) Whatever the site’s plugins expose through the WordPress Abilities API No built-in client, so results depend on installed plugins. WordPress.com offers its own MCP server on paid plans (WordPress.com)
Elementor: Elementor MCP, set up from the WordPress dashboard (September 22, 2026) Full pages, headers, footers and custom widgets as editable Elementor structure Editing existing layouts and design systems needs the Angie plugin, and Pro plans unlock more tools (Elementor MCP)
Wix: Wix MCP, a remote server at mcp.wix.com (May 7, 2025) Wix code, site APIs, and creating and publishing sites (Wix docs) Accepting online payments needs a Wix Premium plan
Duda: Duda MCP, in beta (October 2, 2026) Sites, content, blog posts, store data and Vibe projects Creating new Vibe projects and publishing through MCP need the Custom plan
Ploy: Ploy MCP, a remote server with OAuth (October 14, 2026) Ask for a page and Ploy’s Agent builds it on your site in your brand. Pull in form submissions and see which companies visit Built for sites Ploy hosts. You choose whether the agent can publish

Ploy’s MCP connects your AI tool to a marketing agent and your site data

Ploy is an AI marketing platform for website growth. It builds on-brand pages, hosts your site and shows you which companies visit. Ploy’s MCP brings that into Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any tool that supports custom MCP servers. You sign in once, with no API key to manage. It works on sites Ploy hosts, not on Framer or other builders’ sites.

Once connected, you can:

  • Build pages from a chat. Ask for a landing page or a change to an existing one, and Ploy’s Agent builds it on your site.
  • See who’s showing up. Bring form submissions and visitor data into the same conversation, including which companies are reading your pages.
  • Publish when you’re ready. Publishing is its own permission, so you decide whether your AI tool can take pages live.

What Ploy adds beyond the editor

Framer MCP gives an agent the Framer canvas. Ploy pairs your site with the marketing work around it:

  • Keep new pages on-brand. Ploy builds from your existing site and brand, so a new landing page matches the rest of your site without a designer redrawing it.
  • Hand off recurring work. Ploybooks are saved workflows that Ploy’s Agent can run on a schedule, such as a weekly site audit or a content refresh.
  • Track AI search. Ploy shows how your brand appears in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews answers.
  • Start from what you have. Rebuild an existing page from its public URL as a starting point, and serve new pages on chosen paths of your current domain while your Framer site keeps serving the rest.

Framer MCP is the direct choice if your site lives in Framer and you want an agent working on its canvas. Ploy fits when you want your pages, visitor data and recurring marketing work in one place, run from the AI tool you already use. If you’re weighing a move, read Ploy vs Framer and the Framer migration guide, and find setup steps on the Ploy MCP page.

Run your Ploy site from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

Ask your AI tool for a new page and Ploy's Agent builds it on your site. Then see which companies visit, from the same chat.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official Framer MCP server?

Yes. Framer introduced Framer MCP on October 22, 2026. It is a remote MCP server at https://mcp.framer.com/mcp that connects AI tools to your Framer projects after you sign in with your Framer account. Framer now recommends it for new connections.

Does Framer MCP work with Claude and ChatGPT?

Yes. Framer lists setup through the Claude Directory and the ChatGPT Plugins directory, plus manual setup for Claude Code and Codex. Other AI tools that support remote Streamable HTTP MCP servers and OAuth, such as Cursor, can connect too.

Can Framer MCP publish my site?

Yes, when you explicitly ask it to. By default, changes stay in your Framer project or on a branch and don't affect the live site until you or your agent publishes. Framer suggests asking the agent to work on a branch so you can review its changes first.

What's the difference between Framer MCP and External Agents?

Framer MCP is a remote server you connect to with OAuth, and Framer doesn't need to be open while it works. External Agents is Framer's earlier local setup for agents that run on your computer, such as Claude Code. Framer recommends Framer MCP for new connections and keeps External Agents for localization.

Does Ploy's MCP work with Framer sites?

No. Ploy's MCP connects your AI tool to your Ploy workspace and the sites Ploy builds and hosts. It doesn't connect to or edit Framer projects. To work on a Framer site from an AI tool, use Framer MCP.
